Description of Social Entrepreneurship
Stepping Stone Coffee is a restaurant fruit of a social enterprise, which fights against inequality through three axes: inclusive employment; education to tourists about the importance of consuming responsibly; and the promotion of good practices in the tourism industry in social and environmental matters, understanding the reality of the city and paying legally and in line with labor rights to employees.
What led you to create your Social Entrepreneurship?
We have started this business because we have seen the inequality that exists in the city, where the money that enters the tourism industry is not distributed equally. We have seen this space in the market where we can offer healthy breakfasts and lunches.
How does your Social Entrepreneurship impact your community?
Our project exerts its impact in several ways. Firstly with inclusive employment: the impact we have had on the community has a multiplier effect; the salary our employees earn, as the only workers in their families, supporting them to cover their expenses; the formations we give them teach them how to manage their finances and the importance of investing in education; We also work with your personal growth and soft skills so you can get out of your poverty mentality.
Second, we support sustainable and social businesses, which impact the environment and nearby communities. We also use local suppliers and small businesses to generate more impact in the region. Finally, our project has an impact on the tourism industry, telling the reality of poverty and inequality to our clients and generating more conscious, sustainable and concerned travelers about unsustainable practices.
What do you dream of happening with your Social Entrepreneurship?
Our dreams for the future are: firstly Follow and scale our impact on our employees, helping them out of poverty with a better training program and creating an application that they can use on their cell phones as a constant accompaniment to their practical experience .
Secondly, we want to generate more impact on the tourism industry in Cartagena, creating a more sustainable and social environment through a network of sustainable restaurants and hotels that they use under an inclusive practice and that pay what is legally established.
Thirdly, we want to impact our clients, who are the majority of international tourists to be more conscious and sustainable in their travels, recognizing the current situation of the city.
