Description of Social Entrepreneurship

EDUCREANDO is an NGO that since 2016 has been working in the El Calvario, Sucre and San Pascual neighborhoods of Cali, transforming the lives of children and young people through inclusive workshops of art, science and psychosocial accompaniment where we discover their talents, cultivate them and we connect them with allied institutions that promote their development. In this way we reduce the risk of drop-out, prevent child labor, promote schooling and support with tutorials so that they do not drop out.

At the same time, working hand in hand with the community of neighborhood recyclers, allied institutions and citizens in general, we recycle, reform and extend the useful life of second school materials such as briefcases, cartridge cases, lunch boxes, colors, among others, that serve as inputs for the Educreando workshops and also delivered to families whose children need them to continue their studies.

What led you to create your Social Entrepreneurship?

According to the United Nations Development Program, children from the poorest households are up to four times more likely not to attend school than those from families with more resources.

Only in Cali, a city of 2.4 million inhabitants, about 80,000 children in sectors of high economic vulnerability do not finish their studies.

Thus, dropping out and schooling are serious social problems and have their roots in low family income, child labor, lack of emotional academic support and barriers to the acquisition of school supplies.

Thus, we have identified that dropping out and de-schooling are born of serious social problems that in turn generate even more complex situations, such as juvenile delinquency, premature pregnancy, drug addiction and prolongation of poverty circles.

That is why, in order to contribute and be part of the solution, Educating a purposeful team aligned with the SDGs, has decided to make inclusive and social entrepreneurship programs so that all children go to school and transform their lives.

How does your Social Entrepreneurship impact your community?

We generate inclusive educational spaces where children at risk of de-schooling have the option of learning by playing and in this way they move away from the street and are interested in returning to study or maintain their studies, while promoting their talents in external institutions. In turn, with the help of parents, mostly recyclers, we help them to be formalized, trained and integrated into the program to recover school supplies in order to increase their income.

What do you dream of happening with your Social Entrepreneurship?

In the medium term we want to collect useful school supplies in various parts of the city, to reform them, extend their useful life, to create two lines of school materials with an environmental and social sense, of low cost and high quality, one for poor families of all regions and another for sale in chain stores and stores that will generate an inclusive circular economy around the empowerment and active participation of families linked to the project, which will generate 30% more income, support the education of their children and enhance the Educreando programs , without leaving anyone behind.
