Description of Social Entrepreneurship

The Ecopazifico Foundation is an environmental education and permaculture program, dedicated to the children of the Colombian Pacific and in honor of the humpback whales that year after year travel from Antarctica to give birth to their young and reproduce.

What led you to create your Social Entrepreneurship?

The frustration of seeing the beaches so polluted with plastic and nobody doing anything about it.

How does your Social Entrepreneurship impact your community?

Ecopazifico directly impacts children especially in Juanchaco and Ladrilleros, with messages and lessons about environmental education, good environmental habits, recycling culture and creativity with plastic beaches.

More and more adults begin to collaborate. They are starting to clean their surroundings because we have been doing some house-to-house visits explaining how the new recycling system works and everyone has found it an excellent idea. However, the process with adults is slower than with children.

We also greatly impact the volunteers who come to clean the beach, because they do not want to know anything about disposable plastic and they become very aware.

What do you dream of happening with your Social Entrepreneurship?

We dream that the recycling system works, that the people of the community have the tools and knowledge to recycle in order. We dream of having a recycling factory that transforms plastic into valuable and construction objects so that the community has the opportunity to generate income around recycling. We dream of establishing that Juanchaco, Ladrilleros and La Barra become an Ecological path with recycling stations throughout the communities. That the educational signs of these stations constantly remind visitors and inhabitants of the paradise where they are located and the importance of protecting it.

We dream that people understand that tourism, which is their main source of income, will improve when people speak better about Juanchaco and this would be achieved with everyone keeping everything always clean. We need the community to understand the importance of separating their recycling in sacks and not to burn all their waste together.
