Description of Social Entrepreneurship
GAMUCAMPO is an association of 27 rural women, victims of forced displacement, mothers head of household; that through an economic empowerment initiative in the fish sector, they point to the visibility of women as a fundamental pillar of peacebuilding and socio-economic development in the Catatumbo region, and the recognition of their abilities and potential to work in any area or sector, even in those in which they have been underrepresented by social prejudices that assign roles and capacities different to men, thus contributing to the eradication of gender stereotypes and providing tools for overcoming poverty to these Women and their vulnerable families.
This is how, through teamwork, they distribute the responsibilities of the associates, involving the whole family in all phases of the fish farming process; from the production of the fry, the lifting and fattening, the preparation of the fish, to its direct commercialization in the local and regional market places where they have begun to open space, since the inhabitants value their effort and support the products of the region.
What led you to create your Social Entrepreneurship?
Our social entrepreneurship stems from the constant search for welfare opportunities for our associates and for alternatives to overcome the adversities facing the region. That is why the women of Gamucampo have shown in the breeding and sale of fish a sustainable and profitable source of income for women and their families not only economically but socially, since through fish farming they can achieve great transformations for the municipality becoming an example and inspiration for other women, eliminating prejudices that limit the capacities of rural women.
How does your Social Entrepreneurship impact your community?
Gamucampo positively impacts the quality of life of 27 households and contributes to the socioeconomic development of the community where they are located by promoting a profitable economic activity within the law. This is achieved through the entrepreneurial and reconciling spirit of each of the women, who stand out for their commitment, industriousness, responsibility, sense of belonging, authenticity, courage and enthusiasm.
What do you dream of happening with your Social Entrepreneurship?
GAMUCAMPO dreams of becoming a pioneer association of women recognized regionally and nationally for their leadership in social work, achieving a better quality of life for both the associates and their family nuclei from fish farming; getting involved in the transformation of the municipality of Teorama into a reconciling municipality that promotes gender equity, through the social and economic empowerment of Teoramenses women.
